Be Different.. by S o l i l o q u y

Be Different.. a photo by S o l i l o q u y on Flickr.
I watched this video today and started thinking about being "different". Kind of confusing don't you think? Seems like everyone wants to be liked, fit in, seem "normal".... be the same as everyone else, dress alike, drink the same thing, root for the same team, drive a certain car, wear a certain brand...and above all just go along with the norm.

But then you also hear that you should be yourself, live out loud,
be who you are, be authentic, be creative, and dream of being special.

The older I get the less I thought I worried about what everyone else thought, after all we are all unique right? And I thought just because I like my caffeine cold instead of hot, or because I prefer cold weather to warm, or that I like calm and quiet more than loud and edgy wouldn't bother anyone. I didn't mean you have to like what I like --- it's o.k. with me.

But this video got me to thinking about it again, and it really is funny to me now - we are each DIFFERENT - each one - every one. Like snowflakes, we are each special, beautiful, unique and can bloom blue and be happy about it while appreciating all the colors shapes and beauty around us. So if you sport a flower in your hat, wear purple, and march to your own drummer CALL me and we'll do lunch!

  1. Linda! I love this post! I have never fit in, have always loved my caffeine cold and the older I get, the more I find myself not wanting to fit in, but have a ball doing what ever the heck I feel like doing! My friends and family call me "crazy" rather regularly and I actually am finding it to feel like a compliment! I wish we could do lunch anywhere, anytime, but chances are we would get thrown out for laughing too loud and having WAY TOO MUCH FUN! Love you, girlfriend!

  2. Lovely post. We all are different...and sometimes we try hard not to be..but still we are son we have to embrace the uniqueness God has granted us.
I love (really love) to read your comments in my posts, they always lift my spirit...and inspire me to be a better person. I love the authenticity and honesty of your words! Thank you so much!!!

  3. I adore both of you and am a lucky girl to call you each my friend. Your comments have helped me understand that while we are all unique, it takes courage to wear it on the outside ;-) love you.
